Insight partnered with Asheville Christian Academy (ACA) to oversee the cleanup of its 55-acre campus in Swannanoa, NC, after the Swannanoa River breached its banks. Floodwaters from Hurricane Helene inundated the first floor of every building on campus, bringing in cars, mobile homes, and vegetative debris.
D.H. Griffin was contracted to handle debris removal, while Insight monitored the process to ensure proper documentation and compliance. These efforts helped ACA secure FEMA reimbursement for the project’s expenses.

Environmental Factors
Floodwaters reached the first floor of every campus building, leaving behind debris, mud, and silt. Proper disposal of vehicles was critical to mitigate environmental risks from fuel, oil, and chemicals. Cadaver dogs were deployed to search for remains.
Regulatory Compliance
D.H. Griffin and Insight collaborated with the Army Corps of Engineers to ensure proper debris removal. Onsite sorting and segregation streamlined the cleanup, utilizing excavators, articulating dumps, skid steers, bulldozers, and vacuum trucks. Insight monitored the entire process from initial collection to final disposal by the Corps.
Personnel and Equipment Tracking
Insight oversaw over 50 contractors and 75 pieces of equipment throughout the cleanup. Using its proprietary ADMS tracking software, Insight ensured precise monitoring of contractor personnel and equipment, bringing a highly trained workforce to support its client’s recovery goals. Monitors worked in partnership with contractors to ensure a safe, efficient, and timely operation.
Client Outcome
The ACA campus flooded on September 27, 2024. Thanks to rapid mobilization and close coordination with contractors, students returned to school by January 7, 2025. Recovery efforts continued for five months, restoring all buildings and facilities. Future projects, including athletic field rehabilitation, are set to begin as weather conditions improve.
